Do you have security cameras?
Yes, all our sites have High Dev Security Cameras that record all activities within the properties.
Do you have Moving Equipment or offer Moving Services?
We have a 20ft V-Nose Trailer that we lend out to customers under Contract for a simple security and damage deposit. Unfortunately, we do not offer any Moving Services.
Do you sell locks and moving supplies?
Yes, we sell a Standard Disk Lock and some moving supplies such as tape, drop tarps, sofa and mattress covers, and boxes.
What is a Heated Unit?
Heated Units are Interior Units in a building that is heated to 55 degrees in the Winter Months (October 1st through April 1st). In the Summer we DO NOT cool these spaces, however, given the insulation values within the buildings, they stay relatively cool and humidity-free compared to that of a Traditional Storage Unit.
Is there hydro in the units?
No, we do not have hydro connections in the units. We do have two larger heated spaces that have hydro (receptacles and lights) for our Business Clients.
Do I have to sign a Contract to lease a unit?
All Unit Rentals are governed by a Storage Contract which outlines the Cost, Unit Size and Location, Term (Length of the Lease) and the Terms and Conditions of the rental. This also includes the process and penalties for non-payment.
How do I pay and when are the payments due?
We accept Mastercard or Visa, E-Transfer, Cheques or Cash. Payments are due on the first of each month.
Do I have to give Notice of End of Lease?
We require the First Month (Pro-rated) and Last Month's Rent upon move in and all payments thereafter are due on the first of each month. We require that you give us 15 days notice before the final month's payment is due so that we can begin to market the unit as open. This means that if you are moving out on December 31st that you will need to give us Notice by November 15th and we will use your Last Month’s Deposit for the December rent. If we do not receive Notice in this period we will assume that you are going to be paying on the 1st of the month as usual.
How do you manage Gate Access and Access Control?
For those properties that have Automated Gate Access we ask that you use the access appropriately and not “Tailgate” the car in front of you. Each lessee will receive a gate card or access fob and will be offered entry through the gate once every 5 minutes. If you have multiple cars or vehicles coming in to help you move in or out, please ask us for a temporary card or access code. Any gate damage as a result of “tailgating” or other activity will be charged back to you as the Lessee under the Storage Contract.
Is Insurance Required?
Yes, insurance is required and we are not liable for any damages as per our Storage Contract. We suggest you use your renters or homeowners insurance. However, for ease of use and guaranteed protection you can, with the purchase of one of our Shield Disc Locks, use our in-house insurance program which is offered by _________________. What are the office hours and where can I leave payment?
Currently, the office hours are held at our Head Office (Main Street Storage) on Tuesdays and Thursdays (10am-5pm) or by appointment set up by calling or texting 705-738-2222. We also receive emails at
info@shieldstoragecentres.com 24/7. We can arrange all Storage Contracts and Move Ins through our online reservation service. For those wishing to leave a payment, we offer a secure Lock Box Service at the office door of our Head Office (Main Street Storage).
What if I am a little late making a payment?
Being an Independent, we understand that things happen and therefore we are willing to work with ALL our clients. However, communication is EVERYTHING. Keep us in the loop as to what is happening and when you think you will be able to make payment and we will work with you.
Do you offer any discounts or referral bonuses?
For NEW customers, we run promotions throughout the year and we also have standard discounts for Long-Term Rentals (1 Year +), students and discounts in conjunctions with specific realty projects, Realtors and business programs. If you are an existing customer, we offer a $50.00 Referral Bonus on your next month's rent. Some restrictions apply – ask the office for details.
